Shane is a New Zealander, from Hamilton, who was educated at Hamilton Boys High School. At Hamilton Boys, the foundations were laid, that eventually led to selection in the Blacks Sticks Men’s Hockey team as a player, a desire to teach and ultimately coach.
Post an international playing career, Shane engaged his passion for coaching and progressed to become the Black Sticks Men’s coach at both the Beijing & London Olympics, from there he moved to Belgium to head up their men’s national hockey programme.
Ranked just inside the top ten when he arrived, Shane led the national men’s team to number ranked team in the world. At the Rio Olympics, Belgium won the silver medal, from there they won gold at both the European Cup and World Cup before winning the gold medal at the Tokyo Olympics.
Shane is a world class coach, who has delivered ongoing high performance on the world stage, underpinned by a coaching philosophy that prioritizes the personal development, wellbeing and enjoyment of his athletes and teams. Shane is passionate about coaching and in particular the development of youth.
